solution to my version of the problem

I stumbled over this feed while looking for a resolution of extremely high cpu usage. Just wanted to tell how I resolved the issue:

    100% cpu usage of prl_vm_app
50% cpu usage under windows 7 by taskhost.exe
used windows process explorer http://www.chip.de/downloads/Process-Explorer_12996492.html to identify process that is executed by taskhost.exe:
found RAC (some Reliability checking procedure for windows)
RAC starts every 30 minutes and killed my cpu
    started taskplaner via taskschd.msc
looked for RAC and turned of the planned start every 30 mins.

Cpu under mac around 20% now and system is quiet and smooth.

hope this might be help for people experiencing this prob. Is a problem that I have seen with vmware fusion.

    prl_vm_app using lots of CPU

In response to your request below, I ran this command in the Terminal window. Two things happened: the terminal window started spitting out a log every 10 sec, but almost immediately I noticed that the CPU usage had dropped to a normal sort of value. I've pasted some of the log below the end of the original quote, but I don't know if it will reflect the state of the computer before or after the CPU usage dropped since I hadn't thought to be watching for the state of the computer to change.

I have this problem too. Have tried the driver solution but that's up to date and there is no option to roll back the driver.

    What's the next suggestion ?

It's unbelievable to me that there is not an official "hot to" topic for this problem given how it's obviously such a huge problem

Also, considering the change wasn't that dramatic in terms of disk structure.

    Hypervisor option

By disabling the hypervisor option I was able to fix the issue.
    Windows 7.

Apple Mobile Device Services on Windows

I installed apple's iPhone Configuration Utility for Windows yday on my XP VM.
After rebooting today, the prl_vm_app was running my CPU @ 108%

SOLUTION: Went into the services on the windows side (run services.msc) and stopped the 'Apple Mobile Device' service and the CPU utilization of the prl_vm_app went down to 14% immediately.

btw I did try stopping other windows services, but saw no change in my cpu.

I note that this problem has existed since 2008. Here we are, 7 years later, and I am still having the same problem. Is there a fix that people who aren't professional programmers, and don't have a command of computer jargon and acronyms, can understand and implement? (For example, what the heck does "disabling the hypervisor option" mean?)

Can you elaborate for someone who isn't a computer professional (or even an enthusiast.. :) I just want to get the danged think to work)?
How do you "identify process that is executed by taskhost.exe"
How do you start "taskplaner via taskschd.msc?" What is taskschd.msc? Where is it?
What is "RAC," exactly? How would I look for it in your final step?
