Problem using a barcode scanner in Windows

Hi!

I am relatively new to Parallels, but I got it so that I could have Windows on my Mac solely for my job, rather than buying a whole new laptop, since their software is Windows compatible only. I use the program for taking sales orders, viewing catalogs, viewing account info, etc. One of the features is that we can use a barcode scanner that connects via USB to scan the barcodes of a wholesale product catalog and have it scan that item into the sales order...that way I don't have to type style numbers in, I can just scan and it's much quicker. The only problem is, is that when I scan a barcode, it automatically takes me back to my Mac desktop. Any suggestions on how I can make sure it stays on the Windows screen, and it doesn't keep switching back over to the Mac side of things?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Rachel,

1.Plug the cable to your Mac;
2.You will see a pop up window asking you where you would like to connect the device;
3.Choose to connect it to your virtual machine;
4.The device will be attached to Windows and will be recognized there.
If you face any difficulties with using the device, open Device Manager and check your device. It will usually be under the Imaging Devices or Printers.
If there is an exclamation mark next to it, locate the drivers using installation disk that came with the device or download them from the device manufacturer's site.
Also please refer to this article http://kb.parallels.com/112610 to set up scanner onto Windows virtual machine. Thanks!

Hi,

Thank you for the response. The first time I connected the scanner, my Mac thought that it was a keyboard and it set it up as a keyboard, and I couldn't do anything since there were no keyboard buttons to press. Now when I connect it, that box does not come up at all, that asks me if I want to connect it to mac or PC. How do I get my mac to "forget" that it's a keyboard? It doesn't show up at all on the windows side of things.

Hi Ram, thank you for the link, this is what I needed to do to get my scanner to work. Thank you so much for the help!
