I recently decided to try out the latest version of Minix in Parallels Desktop.
However the networking appears to be broken, despite the fact that I have selected the correct network chip in the setup process. I get the following message during the brief bootup process:
"Starting services: random dp8390 inetosdep_eth_init: no ethernet device at task=35587,port=0
eth_set_rec_conf: waiting for device to appear
eth_ioctl: suspending NWIOGETHSTAT ioctl"
(the last line gets repeated a few times at different locations.
I also cannot get X Windows to start:
- when I type the "xdm" command, the hard disk light flashes away for a few seconds and then nothing.
I have been able to reproduce these problems using Parallels Workstation under Windows.
If anyone is interested in trying this out and helping me look into it, you can download Minix 3 for free from http://www.minix3.org.
thanks,
Andy
PS. Apparently it all works under VMWare under Windows
