Problems connecting to a public network.

I'll try and keep this short. When I'm running parallels 7 and windows 7 as my VM at my house, it works perfectly. I'm using the default adapter (bridged) and it connects on its own when I'm at the house. When I'm at school, it doesn't work work at all. I try to use the default adapter and windows 7 says there is an unidentified network. I click on the unidentified network icon on Open Network and Sharing and I see a file with a bunch of Computers and Media devices. I've been trying to figure this out for HOURS and have not found a solution. I've loked all around the forums and haven't been able to find something that works for me.
