I am running Parallels 6 (6.0.12106) on Mac OS X (10.6.8). The guest OS is Windows Server 2003 (6.1 build 7601: SP1) I also have a "completely different Mac" that is Mac OS X (10.7.2) that's part of this equation. I have the network set as Bridged on the Mac that is running the guest OS. The network adapter in the Win 2003 is given a static IP address. The Mac that is running the guest OS is given a dynamic IP address. Here's my problem. While using Mac OS X (10.7.2), a "completely different Mac" than the Mac running the guest OS, I notice my connections to the Windows 2003 server (guest OS) are really slow. Sometimes it takes 10-15 seconds to respond to Finder and other requests. Sometimes it works fine... Today I did an experiment. I ran PING against the Guest OS IP address from the "completely different Mac". I then went onto the Window Server 2003 (Guest OS) and ran a ping back to the "completely different Mac". What I noticed is that the "completely different Mac" reports dropped packets as "Request timeout for icmp_seq 1405". However, at exactly the same time, Windows Server 2003 is pinging "out" perfectly, no drops in packets. So I started another ping from the "completely different Mac". While keeping the original ping processes running, I ran ping to the Mac's adapter that is running the Guest OS. This ping is extremely fast, with absolutely no dropped packets. So, what's happening is Windows Server 2003 (Guest OS) is not receiving some packets, even while the Mac that hosts it is receiving all packets, and even while Windows Server 2003 doesn't lose packets sent to external machines. Anyone else see this same problem? How can I fix this?
wow, this looks strangely similar to my problem... see the post I made today. I lose network/web connectivity every 24-36 hours... Thanks BrandonM
Afaik Windows by default doesn't responds to ping. To change this behaviour it is either required to disable Windows firewall or to allow pings.
