Surprisingly, I had no problems at all on my iMac. But, as I said elsewhere, on my MacBook Pro (late 2600) menus are missing as is the lateral access to programs. Following your suggestion, I verified all the files and symbolic links were already present in the mentionned folder. I tried even to delete the symbolic links and the file, copy the file from the prltools directory anf redefining the symbolic links at no avail.
Still useless Ubuntu 12.04 on this particular machine (and I re-installed Parallels Tools a few times also)
Other than that, no menu bar and no lateral access to programs, there is an horizontal white line just a little bit under the absent menu bar. This disappears if I click anywhere on the screen. There is definitely a problem with the graphic rendering on my MacBook Pro ?
    Any other idea ? Thanks.

Turns out, disabling 3D in video did restore a functional UBUNTU 12.04 on the MacBook Pro also
