hi, I am evaluating application server but when I publish explorer.exe on the windows terminal server, 2x starts a complete new shell ... is this normal?
Yes it is because 2X probably did not work on intercepting calls to explorer.exe. One possible workaround is to make a copy of explorer.exe to explorer2.exe and publish it. You can then add the command line switches for explorer to start for example showing a certain drive letter (your user home directory for example).
2X ApplicationServer v4.1 can publish commonly used applications such as Windows Explorer and Control Panel.
