I have a mac with 4gb installed.I am also running paralells 6 for windows which I use mainly. I have noticed the system runs VERY slowly when anything more than about 3 browser windows are open. I used Belarc Advisor to report on my pc from within Windows 7 and it reports that I only have 1GB of ram fitted (1GB of ram fitted in dimm slot 0, and no further memory modules fitted in the other 3 slots)
Why does the mac report 4 GB when using the mac but only 1GB when using windows 7 via paralells 6
I apologise in advance if I have posted this on the wrong forum/section......first time I have posted!

4 GB is the total physical RAM.

All this RAM is available to the host system (OS X).

Parallels and its virtual machines have to SHARE this RAM with the host, so they can only be attributed a percentage of this RAM. You can control the amount of RAM to assign to a virtual machine by going into the virtual machine configuration, 1GB is the default setting for Windows 7. Since you have 4 GB you shouldn't assign more than 2 GB (the other 2 GB are NEEDED for OS X).

I suggest 1,5 GB.

MANY MANY thanks for your very quick reply..........have now knocked the virtual machine up to 2gb. Can I be cheeky and ask another question? My MAC has 4 gb and now understand that I have to leave 2gb as the monimum for the mac. How do I go about increasing the size of RAM in the mac so I can then increase the amount of that total memory to be used in my virtual machine? Basically I would like to have 4gb of ram assigned to my virtual machine and 4gb (say) for MAC useage. Many thanks. Fergy
 
if you are not running any applications in the native OS X system would be problematic to give to 2GB to the Windows 7 host? I like to use Naturally Speaking inside the Windows 7 host and 1.5 GB is near the low end for performance.
