Recording Gameplay

Good day everyone,

I host a Let's Play of Dragon Quest X, one of the longest running on YouTube in fact. I recently got a spec'd out M3 iMac to consolidate my office setup. Everything has been working perfectly, except I haven't been able to figure out how to capture the gameplay/audio of the game. I've tried a few things like OBS on Mac, but it only sees the W11 environment, not the individual Dragon Quest window. I wanted to know if I purchase the Toolbox from Parallels does this allow me to do what I'm trying to do? I don't want to spend money if this won't work.

TLDR: What I'm trying to do: Record gameplay audio and video as well as the audio for my voiceover from my microphone all at the same time with different levels of audio volume control (would like to lower the game audio compared to my voice for example).

If anyone can confirm this is possible with the Parallels toolbox that would be wonderful, or if anyone has any other suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.

using Loopback for routing game audio and a separate mic input on macOS. Combine this with OBS, which can mix and adjust audio levels. This setup should meet your requirements effectively.

No, Parallels Toolbox won't help with this. It's just a utility suite, not an advanced recording tool.



Better Solutions:

1. Use an HDMI Capture Card (e.g., Elgato HD60 X) - Best quality, separate audio control.

2. OBS + NDI Plugin - Stream Windows gameplay to macOS OBS.

3. Loopback for Audio - Route and adjust game/mic audio separately on macOS.
