recovering my windows image

I am using Parallels Desktop for Mac. I have inadvertently managed to delete the file that Parallels uses to start Windows. I am now attempting to recover this file using a recovery program.

I have a couple of simple questions:
1. Should I be l looking for an ISO file? If not, which file type should I be looking for?
2. Where should the recovered file be located on my Mac
3. Can anyone recommend a suitable recovery program?

Hello leeg5, download a Windows disk image file from http://bit.ly/2l0pk8h and ensure that the download completes successfully.Follow this article to install Windows, using the disk image file downloaded earlier and see if this works. Please let us the know whether you are looking for the file in Windows or on Mac side and moreover, we don't recommend any program for the recovery process. Thanks!

You're welcome. Please go to the spotlight search and type in .pvm file and see whether you have .pvm file in your Mac documents and let us know. Thanks!

The file you're referring to is the virtual machine file (it is a file with the extension '.pvm').

Retrieve the data in the old virtual machine? This can be done by adding the hard disk of the old virtual machine to the new virtual machine as a secondary drive. This retrieves only the files/folders in the old Windows installation (not software applications) and only works if the virtual hard disk is intact.

Unfortunately, it's not, judging by its size. Did you look for the .pvm file in the Trash too?

I am lost... To recap. I lost a large file that I am assuming is my harddisk image that Parallels uses to start-up. I have reinstalled Windows after being advised to do so, but I'm missing important documents/files. I do still have the original .pvm file.
Is the .pvm file the place where the files and folders are stored? If so. How can I connect the new virtual machine with the previous .pvm file?
