I'm running Windows 10 for testing as a guest on my Mac My internal SSD has only 128GB and I like to, no, I must reduce the size of the VM. It has 24GB. Here my list of all what I did to reduce the size: In Parallels: Menu File > Free space > ... In Windows: 1. Preferences > Memory > Free Memory > ... 2. hiberfil.sys: Terminal with admin rights > powercfg.exe -h off > Restart 3. Reduce the size of trash bin 300MB 4. disable shadow copies: Win+R > services.msc > Microsoft-Softwareschattenkopie-Anbieter ("Provider of shadow copies") > Eigenschaften von Microsoft-Softwareschattenkopie-Anbieter (Lokaler Computer) ("properties of provider of shadow copies") 5. disable version history 7. compression of Windows: start terminal as admin > Compact.exe /CompactOS:always The result is a windows with 24GB. Ist there any way to reduce the size significantly? Thanks.
Hi @Saerdna , make sure you have a back up of the Windows virtual machine in your external drive and follow steps in the article to reclaim disk space which will reduce the size of the virtual machine.
Thanks. But in the article there's no step, which I didn't mentioned. I just like to know, which size the virtual machine has for other users.
Hi @Saerdna , please check this link analyse which folder is taking up much space and try to clear it up.
You don't say whether this is W10 32 or 64bit?. A clean basic install of W10/32, requires 16GB. That' s the starting minimum. W10 64bit increases this by about 4GB. By the time you have a few extra programs, you are not that much over this.... Something like NTLite, does allow you to save quite a chunk out of the basic W10 size. It might be worth looking at this.
