Resizing hard disk, not working

I kept having virtual memory and disk space problems with an expanding hard disk, so I used the Image Tool to change it to a plain HD, and then increased the size. The current size is 12.5 GB, which shows in the Finder, and in the Parallels config screen, but my XP installation sees it as a 7.8 GB drive, and there is only a few hundred MB left.

Apparently, the Image Tool did something wrong; is there any way I can fix this and get some hard disk space?

Yes, I have a backup, but I would rather not use an expanding disk, so I do want this to work.

I just spotted that thread. It seems excessively complicated for something that, according to the help files, should be simple with Image Tool.

Also, that thread dates back pretty far; I'm cautious about doing things that worked for older builds...

Can't change which HDD to boot

So the Parallels team made a fatal error in their addition of a couple really great features. Placement and functionality are the primary problems... here's the deal:

There's a really great feature that enables you to have Parallels automatically launch your Virtual Machine upon opening the App... and when you shut down the VM, it closes Parallels.

HOWEVER...

If you want to change any configurations of the Virtual Machine, they can't be done while it's running... so you have to shutdown... but wait... it quits Parallels... so you can't get to that screen to change the config

So, once you have those settings configured... you're stuck... permanently (or so it seems), even to change the drive that it boots from, or to mount other drives! So I can't resize my drive using these methods.

Essentially, here's the solution that involves some reworking of the programming...

Either, the settings for auto close and auto run, should be in the application preferences

... OR...

The user should be able to change the VM configs, while the VM is running and then it would tell you the changes will take effect the next time you launch the VM.

Does anyone know of any hotkeys or something that would enable you to prevent it from closing Parallels when you shutdown the VM?
 
open your VMs .pvs file in a test editor and change the auto start setting to 0. then, running parallels from the Applications/Parallels folder wont run your VM.
