Running Windows 8.1 and Parallels 10 - shut down question

Is it really safer/better to actually SHUT DOWN Windows 8 from within the virtual machine as opposed to letting Parallels put the VM into Suspend Mode?
I prefer the Suspend Mode way because the shutdown and startup is much faster, but after a recent problem with my VM (which the tech support did a wonderful job of getting it working again), he suggested that it is better/safer to actually shut down Windows - not allow Parallels to do so.
Any thoughts?

Thanks for the reply and the referenced article BUT it does not answer my question. I understand the various shut down and power up options in Parallels BUT from when I moved from a Windows machine to a Mac back in 2011 and started using Parallels to run Windows (at that time XP, then 7 and now 8.1) I felt it was easier and much quicker to allow Parallels to put the VM into Suspend Mode when I shut down Parallels - and I never had any issues doing it this way.
But during a recent issue that your tech support people were great to help, his advice was not to allow Parallels to do the actual shutdown, but to actually shut down the Windows VM in Windows itself. (He did say that the problem that developed in my VM was not caused by my method of shutting down the VM though.)
So my question - for people who are running Parallels 9/10 with Windows 8 is "is it safe to allow Parallels to put the VM into Suspend Mode as opposed to having Windows do an actual Shut Down each time?"
