scsi controller is not installed

I was getting the error message:

scsi controller is not installed

in a brand new VM. I could find no solutions posted anywhere.

Well I got finished with customer support, and while not exactly a solution, it is a answer.

This message can often mean a corrupted VM, or a VM which has run out of disk space.

The solution is to DELETE your VM and recreate it.

A pain if it is a new VM, a nightmare if you had a lot of unbacked up stuff on the VM.

Support could not answer how or why a VM becomes corrupted. ????

So there it is, not a great answer, but at least it won't keep you spinning your wheels looking for fixes that don't exist!

the message you are talking about is not an error message in fact. It indicates that your Virtual Machine has no SCSI controller installed and can only be located on the IDE or SATA drive.

The Location can be changed in Virtual Machine Config pane:

Server OSes are usually located on SCSI drives which increases the I/O speed, but for the Windows XP/ Windows 7 virtual machine IDE or SATA drive is enough. If you still want to move the Virtual Hard drive to SCSI location, you need to install SCSI controller, here is the article
