Shared Mac Printer -> print quality problems

This issue has been troubling me since at least version 3.0:

- HP Laserjet 1200 connected through USB to iMac and shared to other users on local network
- MacBookPro configured to print to HP Laserjet 1200 on iMac
- Windows XP on MacBookPro configured to shared host networking and to print using shared Mac Printer
- As indicated in User Guide, print driver HP Laserjet 8500 selected under Windows
- No problems printing as such, but text from most applications gets transformed into Courier along the road, regardless of original font, and fixed width of this font is not observed, so letters get printed partly overlapping or with too wide a space between them.

Lets try reinstalling Parallel tools by completely removing them and install them once again. This will give us some new drivers that was not present previously.

Kindly follow these steps detailed below.

1) Log in to Windows => Go to Control Panel => turn off Windows Firewall and also Anti virus.
2) Please disable the Parallel Internet Security (Kaspersky).
3) Go to Control Panel => Go to Add or remove Programs => Remove Parallel tools completely.
4) After the Parallel tools are removed then on the Menu bar click on Virtual machine.
5) Click on install Parallel tools => Click on Continue and proceed with the installation.
6) This is a time consuming process so i would request you to kindly keep a check if you get the confirmation message that " Parallel tools are successfully installed."
7) Restart the Windows Operating System and the Mac.

Please reply us the status of the issue.
 
In the meantime I managed to pinpoint the problem more precisely - it turns out the problem occurs only [in as far as I have been able to test] with text in Times New Roman, and, even more strangely, only with Latin text in this font - adjacent text in Cyrillic in the same document prints as should. Would you still advise me to reinstall Parallel tools in this light?

FYI: OS on Mac and Windows have English as primary language.
 
Just to check whether this mattered or not, I switched off Times New Roman in Fontbook on the Host OS and restarted both machines - it did not make any difference.

Lets reinstall the Parallels tools so that this will give some new drivers that are very neccessary for the printer to print fine. After reinstalling the tools try and print the document that is in Times New Roman style.

Please reply us the status of the issue.
 
I removed and reinstalled Parallel tools and restarted both machines - all unfortunately to no avail. One other thing I have noticed is that the first printjob eventually never prints - the Mac printer icon appears in the Dock and then closes again, without the print job actually having been carried out. Second and subsequent print jobs do get printed. Thought this might possibly give you some leads.

Hello Gijs,

Please go to Start -> Printers and Faxes -> Select your printer by clicking on it -> Click on file -> Delete the printer.
Now, click on Add Printer and follow the online instructions.

And also replace the existing drivers.

If this does not work, then please clear the folder C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp on Windows side to remove all the information kept by Windows installer. Check the Guest OS behavior after this. If the problem is still here, try the following:

1. Go to C:\Program Files\Parallels and delete the "Parallels Tools" folder;
2. Click "Start" -> "Run" and type regedit. Hit OK.
3. In Registry Editor, go to My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Parallels and delete the "Parallels Tools" entry.
4. Reboot Windows;
5. Make sure that Tools do not get installed again and install them from Virtual Machine menu in Parallels Desktop menu bar.

Now, go back to Printer and Faxes and follow the steps above.
 
Hi Anupama,

Which printer should I delete? The HP Color Laserjet 8500 PS? My virtual machine is configured to share the Mac printer and the User Guide indicates that I should use this driver only, which is what I've been doing so far.
