    hi all,

would anyone mind giving me a little help here in terms of understanding how i can or can't share files between OS X and my Windows 7 Virtual Machine?

i think i changed these settings recently but i am realizing i basically don't conceptually understand how this works. for instance, right now I think i have two folders with the same name on the desktop of both OS'es and I don't think my altering the info in one affects the other at all.

basically i have a little bit of mission critical data that would be easier to store in the VM (so I want to make sure it is backed up) but including all sharing gets me very confused when working in the VM.

THANKS for any help on this.

    - Jon

Make sure you have shared profile enabled in configuration. Go to Virtual machine menu > Configure > Options > Sharing and set folders you want to share from Mac. In the lower part of the window click "share Windows folders with Mac" option.

    Hi Yana. THANK YOU.

Can you please help me a little further here? I feel like I have read up on this and still don't understand how these settings work or how to handle this.

My settings are below and I guess in my case I am sharing everything in Windows with Mac somehow and I am sharing everything on the Mac (except the Desktop) with Windows somehow? I mean, as a PRACTICAL matterare there differences between the "Share Mac" settings and the "Share Windows" settings? I mean, if I use the settings I have posted here does this mean that I can STORE all my data on my Mac Side and then INSTALL it into a Windows 3D Modeling program with no problems?

If so, am I /supposed/ to see a FOLDER that resides in my MAC DOCUMENTS folder in EXPLORER on the WINDOWS side somehow? I am finding this very confusing as I am currently literally dragging information from my Mac Desktop (literally I go to the desktop) and then drag it to the Windows Desktop, and then I literally go to the WIndows Desktop and drag these folders into the My Documents folder on the windows side. And then I am installing this information in the 3D program.

Is there a way to just leave the folder /in/ the Mac Documents folder and just install from there without any issues?

Open My computer under Windows virtual machine . You wil find 2 network drives there: Home psf and Host psf.
Home is you user folder on Mac - open it and you wil find your documents folder. Host id Mac HD folder on you Mac. Try it out and tell me if you need some more help.

    Hi Yana,

Can I please ask you how I do this from the Mac side? I mean, if I am in Finder is there a way to find the folders on the WINDOWS side? I mean, I appear to have the settings enabled to see them but I don't know where to look.

I mean I do understand the psf Home and Host show me the Mac side from EXPLORER but what about seeing the VM folders from Finder...?

    You know what i mean...?

The Windows hard drive should be mounted to your Mac desktop while the VM is running - please check your Desktop
