Sharing keyboard mapping

Hi,

I have a custom keyboard mapping for my Windows VM's. Now I'm planning to share my VM's between different Mac (an iMac for Home Office and a MacBook Pro when I visit my customers). Sharing a VM would just be copying the VM over the network, but what about the keyboard mapping? Is it part of the VM package or did I have to copy it separately? If I have to, where can I find the mapping file?

I tape that this is not an FAQ. I searched the forum and I ask google, but I didn't find an answer.

Keyboard Mapping - Mac on Parallels 7 using Windows VMs

This is not really well documented and this is clearly something which people need when using Parallels with Microsoft Windows products. Here are some common mappings and suggestions:

Macbook Keyboard and Windows Keystrokes in Parallels
• Insert = FN + Enter (I mapped Alt to Insert also)
• Home = FN + Left (arrow)
• End = FN + Right (arrow)
• PgUp = FN + Up (arrow) or Shift + Up (arrow)
• PgDn = FN + Down (arrow) or Shift + Down (arrow)
• Break = From the Parallels Menu / Devices / Keyboard / Break
(Or use an auto-hotkey - see Kevin Klienfelters Blog)
• Print Screen = Use Mac options
o Apple Key (Command Key) + Shift + 3 = Puts Picture_ on Apple Desktop
o Apple Key (Command Key) + Shift + 4 = Cursor changes to + drag box around section and puts Picture_ on Apple Desktop (Note if you press Spacebar with this you can select window you want caputured)
• Scroll Lock = can be mapped in Parallels Menu / Preferences / Keyboard
• Num Lock = can be mapped in Parallels Menu / Preferences / Keyboard
• Context Menu (keyboard Right Click equivalent) = Ctrl + Shift + Click
• Right Side Control Key = (haven’t found this one)
Common Microsoft Keyboard Shortcuts with a Mac Keyboard (Control = Command)
• Ctrl + C (Copy) = Command + C
• Ctrl + X (Cut) = Command + X
• Ctrl + V (Paste) = Command + V
• Ctrl + Z (Undo) = Command + Z
• Ctrl + Y (Redo) = Command + Y
• Ctrl + A (Select All) = Command + A
• Ctrl + I (Italics) = Command + I
• Ctrl + B (Bold) = Command + B
• Ctrl + F (Find) = Command + F
• Ctrl + P (Print Menu) = Command + P
• Ctrl + N (New) = Command + N

Common Microsoft Keyboard Shortcuts with a Mac Keyboard (Function Key = FN + Function Key)
• F1 (Help) = FN + F1
• F2 (Rename in File Manager) = FN + F2
• F3 (Search for file) = FN + F3
• F4 (Address in File Manager) = FN + F4
• F5 (Find / Replace) = FN F5
• F6 (Cycle thru Screen Elements) = FN +F6
• F7 (Spell in Word) = FN + F7
• F8 = FN + F8
• F9 = FN + F9
• F10 = FN + F10
• F11 = FN + F11
• F12 = FN + F12

Common Microsoft Keyboard Shortcuts with a Mac Keyboard (Other Keys)
• Delete (Delete) = FN + Delete
• Shift + Delete = (Perm Delete) = FN + Shift + Delete
• BackSpace = Command + Delete

To do these you need to also disable Apple System Preferences / Keyboard (Mission Control Shortcuts)
• Ctrl + Right (arrow) = Need to map this in Parallels Menu / Preferences / Keyboard to Ctrl + Right (arrow)
• Ctrl + Left (arrow) = Same as with Right Arrow

It is also possible to connect a Microsoft Keyboard to the Mac and not have to worry about much of this.
 
The keyboard mapping files are in : ~/Library/Preferences/Parallels
The Windows keyboard mapping is : ~/Library/Preferences/Parallels/Windows.kbd
