Sharing VMs on the same Mac

Bit poster
I create multiple machines as myself on a Mac. I then decided I wanted another user, "jenkins", to have access to those same machines.

I moved the pvm files to /Users/Shared/Parallels and changed the permission on the files to og+rwx

I can navigate to those pvm files from the jenkins user, but when I try to open them, I get "The specified bundle is invalid"

I know the bundle is valid because the original user can still open them from the new location (and they have been removed from the old location)

Hi edbecky, I guess you are trying to run a virtual machine from the User account which does not have appropriate permissions and opened one. Please check out the instructions outlined in this article to fix the issue.
 
I tried that, but when I "click on .hdd file, open it and locate another .hdd file" there was no other .hdd file, and the first hdd had a red circle with a bar on the icon. Also, if I understand correctly that approach will create a NEW VM using the same HDD, and what I want is to share a single VM.

I also followed the process in 9303 - I don't understand why that didn't work.
 
Hi Edward,

I think the file is locked that might be the reason you are getting the alert "invalid bundle" in the other account. Please login to the account where you have created and moved the virtual machine to Shared folder, right click on the .pvm file, select 'Get Info' make sure it is not locked and also make sure the virtual machine is shut down properly, then check if you can start the virtual machine on another user account.

Get Info tells me none of the files are locked, and everyone has read-write permissions. To be sure I explicitly added the new user with read-write permissions. Still cannot open any of the pvm files when logged in as the new user.
 
Once I gave the new user the same group as the creating user, it worked. This in spite of the fact that permissions were set to 0777
