Shutdown in windows results in virtual machine pausing???

when i am in the windows vista o.s in my virtual machine on my mac, i choose start>shutdown (or the off button as it is in vista) and once i click it and expect it to shutdown, it just goes on pause in the virtual machine window instead of actually shutting down the whole o.s

then i have to use the stop button on the virtual machine to turn off the o.s and then everytime i boot into that same o.s again i come to the screen where it says that windows was not shutdown properly and gives me the choice of booting windows in safe mode, normal mode etc

this never used to happen and has only recently started happening, all my software is up to date and this didnt start happening after something ive installed or configured, just randomly started happening

ok, problem solved, seems as though this button i previously used to shut down the computer has now turned into the button which only pauses it,
to shutdown i now click on the arrow (which gives extra options) and choose 'shutdown' from there which is now working
