SmartSelect 'Edit' Menu has multiple entries of one Application

The listing under Application menu SmartSelect:Edit contains multiple instances of one application name. For example, Notepad has two instances listed one as Notepad and another as Notepad [1]. Editing the association in one of these appear to reflect the same changes onto another. I've searched within my VM to see if multiple instances of said application resided either as actual executable or as an alias, but my search returned only one instances of applications that are affected.

How can I remove the multiple instances that appear in this list?

I am running Windows XP SP3 under Build 5608. SmartSelect has been Set to Default.

Solved

The entries in the Edit menu were nothing more than contents in the Windows Application folder within the VM folder. After I deleted the duplicate items within this folder, the entries disappeared from the Edit menu.
