SmartSelect, Shared Folders, and Local/Global sharing

Hi,
What is the difference between local/global sharing and Shared folders?
I'd like to be able to have fine-grained control over which folders are shared,
but also have SmartSelect work. Appears that SmartSelect doesn't work for Shared
folders, but needs local/global sharing on.
 
Do you mean p. 109 of the User's Guide? There's nothing in there about SmartSelect (in fact that doesn't show up at all in the User's guide.) However, there are two paragraphs,
one about Shared Folders and one about Sharing for Drag and Drop. Too bad only the
second works with SmartSelect: would have preferred fine-grained access for security
(i.e. only
documents in one subdirectory of the hard drive can be accessed directly by Parallels
and "Open with"); unless, that is, I'm missing something.
