Start Menu 1/2 black

Start Menu in Windows XP has the right half blacked out and some other components missing. Happens regardless of mode of viewing. Also cannot change desktop background as that feature does not function (panel freezes and then a run32.dll error message appears)

Made a new account and does the same under the new account.

Any ideas?

Try to create new user and login under his account, if everything is shown, your profile is corrupted

I had tried to search Internet for this case, but didn't find anything,
My suggestion to is to use Windows repair as described in
