Stopping a VM

How do I stop a VM that is configured to automatically open when started and automatically close when stopped? I know there is a key combination plus mouse click but am darned if I can find it in the help manual now! I need to make a change to the VM configuration but cannot until I stop it, but of coarse Parallels closes when I try to stop it.
 
Thanks for the article - this is what I thought. I did find this mentioned in help "press command key while clicking on alias". Trouble is it does not work, the VM starts all the way and will not allow me to edit its configuration. I will try again.
