subdomain confusion

I assume this has to do with parallels, but really am at a loss.

I have installed XP sp2 and Ubuntu and am trying to access my local (to OS X) web site. I have changed the hosts file in both installs, but all I get when I type in any address located on my OS X is the apache document root.

Until now I have been developing without subdomains and haven't had a problem, but I now need to use subdomains for development and can't test the IEs as they will only show the main document root. Even if I change the document root to one of the sites' main document folders, all my img1.sitename.net etc don't do anything.

When I'm on OS X, I have no problems. All my sites and their subdomains show up perfectly.

Does anybody have any ideas? I've asked at the MAMP site, as I am using MAMP, but they are at a loss.

This problem occurs in both 10.4.11 running Parallels 2.something and 10.5.2 running Parallels 3.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Please try Bridged Ethernet - set it in your VM Configuration Editor.

OK, so after a lot of testing different settings out, I finally found the answer. Maybe simple to some, but definitely not to me.

First, I had to change the IP address of all of the virtualhosts that are related subdomains to that of the Parallels Host–Guest network connection in System Prefs. Then I had to edit my hosts files. It worked just fine with Parallels set to Shared networking.

Thanks for your help. It got me thinking a lot. Not that I haven't been thinking about this for the past month or so.
