Transporter required?

I will be getting an iMac soon and new to the mac system. (Long time PC User)
I will need to run some Windows apps I have so I have been reading up on Parallels which sounds like the perfect solution for me.
I was reading about the Transporter but I would like to install my apps manually and then install the data files manually too.
Is this possible? I mean, can I just NOT use the Transporter and install all my apps and data files on my own without using the Transporter at all?

Transporter is needed to migrate your Windows installation to the virtual machine and run it on the Mac.
In your case I think it is not needed, since you want to install all manually. So yes, you may just install a fresh new virtual machine which will be considered as a New stand alone PC but virtualized.
You need to have an installation media for that. Also please make yourself familiar with: http://kb.parallels.com/en/4729

I have read the link you provided and understand. I do have an ISO of the Windows version I wish install and just need to get a new product key for it which I will do. thank you.

I need some direction on where to install my data files though. Since again, I will be doing this manually, do I just go ahead and install my data files on the Windows side in the Windows "My Documents" folder, or is there a better choice as in installing them somewhere on the Mac side? And if on the Mac side, where exactly? I am completely new to the Mac system.

To install an application on a Windows Virtual Machine, follow the steps as given at : http://kb.parallels.com/119310

If you have any important files or data in your Windows PC or in an external hard drive, you can copy it to your Virtual Machine and then you can access it.

Yes, I do have important files to install.
My question was, to which folder is it best to install these files?
Should I install them on the Windows side in the "My Documents" folder?
Or should I install them on the Mac side in the "Home" folder?
Or is there a better folder to install them into?

Hi,

in this case you probably want to install your files in My Documents folder as it will be shared with Mac and vise versa by Parallels Shared Profile.
But actually there is no difference where user has his files. If it is a local path (c:\my folder) for example, so the files will be accessible only from virtual machine's side, if it is in /Home/Users/username/Documents
It will be shared with virtual machine by Parallels Shared folders.
