Trying to network between host and guest when host is disconnected from network

When my macbook is connected to a network, I can browse from my guest OS (an XP Pro SP2 vm) to my host (a MacBook) just fine. This is very useful because it allows me to test my web application in Internet Explorer.

However, when my machine is disconnected from a network, I can't figure out a way to browse from the guest to the host. It seems like there should be a way to do this. It would make it a lot easier for me to get development done while on a plane, for example.

Any ideas?

I answered my own question. After examining the networking FAQ, I was able to set up the network in host only mode with internet sharing, and it I can now browse to my guest's default gateway (the host's IP for en2) and it can see the web server that I'm running on my macbook, both when the host is connected and disconnected from the network.
