Trying to use smartphone as USB NIC

I've got Windows 7 running in Parallels 6.0.11828. I'm trying to use an Android phone in Mobile Broadband Connect mode, where it's functioning as a USB NIC. Parallels can see the phone when I connect it as a hard drive, but won't see it as a NIC. I have HTC's (Windows-only) software and drivers installed on the Win7 VM. Any clues?
