Ubuntu 8.04 LTS with Parallels 5

I'm testing Parallels 5 with Ubuntu 8.04. I imported the VM from Fusion and have been having problems with the mouse. When I first updated the xorg.conf file using the required commands, everything was fine. I have since discovered that each time I reboot the system, Parallels driver over writes the xorg.conf file. It inserts a new mouse input calles "Parallels Mouse". The reboot will be fine, but if I restart the X server or reboot again, I loose mouse control.

If I edit the xorg.conf file and remove the entry for the Parallels Mouse and Input Device and restart the Xserver, the mouse comes back. But once again, on reboot, when Parallels sees that 'Parallels Mouse' isn't in the file, it adds it again.

How can I get this fixed?
 
Ok, I got this fixed finally. Turns out that I had to comment out the Parallels Mouse entry in the Server Section in the xorg.conf. Once that's done, Parallels stops overwritting the file and the mouse stay working.

Does the graphics driver allow for MODE on the display to be installed in the xorg.conf file? If so, I'd like to lock down the resolutions. I only have a 1440x900 screen, but the graphics driver always puts the login screen to highest resolution and then resizes it down to 1280x800 after I log in.
 
Ok, another thing cropped up today.

I updated 8.04 and I received a new version of the kernel 2.6.24-26 (it was 24-25). Once the install was going through, Ubuntu asked me what to do with the menu.lst file. I noticed that Parallels doesn't use the standard menu.lst file that Ubuntu uses. It modifies it, which is why I got the question.

What I ended up doing was telling it to leave it. I then went in by hand and edited the file to look for the new kernel. Is their a better way to do this? Also, why doesn't Parallels support the standard version of this grub file? Under Fusion it just booted with the default kernel. Parallels requests me to pick a kernel. Do I have to remove all the kernels I don't want (including the recovery one)?
 
My ubuntu 8.04 and parallels 5 dumped the network card today, ifconfig -a only shows 'lo'. I found some udev? stuff which seems to have worked for some people, but didn't work for me.

Its caused me a world of pain.
