Unable to install Parallels Tools after upgrade to PD9

I upgraded to PD9 (from PD8) and the install Parallels Tools with not work. It gets about 60% into the process and stops saying that there is an error.

I have been through all the articles that support sends to me with no success. This includes finding Parallels Tools in the Windows-XP programs files and selecting delete (so as to reinstall). But I get an error message saying that Parallels Tools requires that my Windows be running under Virtual Machine and refuses to delete the file.

I have gone round and round with Parallels support with no help and am fed up with them.

Suggestions?

Thank you for your response to my posting.

If you are part of Parallels Support, please look at Case ID #1935393 with includes a long exchange of mails - complete with screen shots and log files.

I have again done the steps in the kb article that you suggest - without success.

In particular, please note my comment that Parallels Tools continues to be shown in the list of programs and can not be deleted.
