Unable to resize disk, low disk space

"Expanding Disk" is not expanding automatically. Getting a lot of " low disk space" msgs in Windows VM that I can no longer solve with compression or deleting files. Tried resizing in configuration panel but received error message: "Resizing failed. Unable to resize the last volume. The file system of this volume might be damaged or not supported."
Any ideas?
 
I think that the manual procedure and methods to resize the disk is very cumbersome. I had once experienced a situation when my Macbook Pro was working very slowly and someone told me to resize the Mac volume to enhance the speed. I tried to do it manually but was frustrated after a few while. Alternatively, I download Tidy Up Mac software that automatically resized and created a new mac partition and my PC speed was enhanced 3 fold times.
