From my experience with this issue it is a combination of resolution and virtual machine video graphics settings. for example, if I had my video graphics for the VM set to 256mb and my resolution on my screens set to the highest possible, coherence will not work and if i have my VM graphics set to 64mb and resolution at the highest on my screens it works ok, works in reverse also.
I would like to run at a higher graphics memory for 3d acceleration but i suppose this is a hardware issue rather than an issue with parallels itself.
Hope this helps
