unable to use license i purchased

i paid for a Permanent Licence with you guys.
i bought a new machine, downloaded Parallels, and when i went to enter the activation key, i was told "Your subscription has expired and cannot be used to activate the product. Please renew the subscription or purchase a new license."
why do i need to renew a PERMANENT license? or even purchase a new one?
i am also getting this error "It cannot activate the current version because it was created for older versions of Parallels Desktop."

so - why did i pay for a permanent license, if i can't use it at all???
 
so - two days in, and still no response! what truly excellent customer service. guess it's time to switch to VMWare????
 
so - almost a week, and nobody from support has bothered to give me an answer, eh? awesome customer service.... /s

We verified your account, and you currently have Parallels Desktop 17.
With this license key, you will be able to activate only Parallels Desktop 17.
As, it seems you have installed the latest version, the reason you have a pop-up to upgrade the license.
If you wish to use the license key without upgrading, you need to install Parallels Desktop 17.

It can be downloaded from the link https://www.parallels.com/directdownload/pd17
So, please uninstall the version you have installed and install the version 17.
