Ununtu screen re > 1024x768 ???

If anyone out there is using Kubuntu (Dapper beta) on their MBP have you been able to get a screen resolution greater than 1024x768?
In my SUSE 10.0 I'm able to get full screen, 1280x800 or other combos using YaST to reconfigure the boot loader. However Ubuntu seems to be limiting me to 1024x768 or maybe 1280x1024 (can't use that for obvious reasons).

Can someone familiar with Ubuntu clue me in? There must be a way to achieve similiar resolutions to SUSE...

Is this in any way related to Parallels Virtual machine? Why are you asking here?
 
Working fine here @1440x900 with Ubuntu 5.10. In VM preferences, set custom resolution to 1440x900.

Well let's see, hmmm... Yeah I think it is related...
Since it might just be a limitation with the PD VM engine and the hardware its trying to emulate, since it could be related to the VESA/VGA adapter that PD emulates I think its a perfectly legit question.
Who appointed you the forum police? I must have missed that announcement, Tell you what before I post anything else I''ll double check with you, would that make you happy?

He's right; this is an Ubuntu question.

Google "xorg.conf"; all you have to do is add the resolution you want to the right line(s) for the chosen color depths, and restart X.


Hint: \etc\X11\xorg.conf

I had the same problems with the dapper beta if I installed from the live-cd image. I re-installed from the alternate image and was able to get everything working much better. I can now get 1680x1050 and 1440x900 working fine on my 17" MacBook Pro. I recommend installing this way. I also found that if I just booted with the live cd, about half the time the audio did not work.

CDaRip2U when you used the alternate ISO install how did you select 1440 x 900? it defaulted to * the 3 main resolutions, I can move up and down to the other resolutions, but what key did you press to * 1440 x 900, enter just continues the install....

so how silly of me. Definitely use the alternate ISO install when you get to the selection screen for screen resolution, go to the desired size (in my case 1440 x900) and hit the SPACEBAR.

too much.
