I had a few questions regarding best practices for performing updates for client software. I was curious if there was a difference in installation processes for updates. Opening the client and choosing check for updates, does this simply run a full client installation the same as a fresh install or is it a distinct update process that strictly updates existing client software? Is it necessary to uninstall the existing version prior to installing the update from my testing thus far it appears running a full client installation of a new version removes the previous version,therefore negating the need for an uninstall?
If the client has a custom .2xc configuration file is this updated to be compatible with the new version, or must you reconfigure or distribute a new file via msiexec.exe / i 2xclient.msi. Also if anyone had suggestions about using Orca or Nullsoft or any other software to create custom install files those would be appreciated as well. Thanks in advance.
