Upgrade from 2.5 to 6, cannot back up and convert, over 4 gb

I am finally taking the time to convert from 2.5 to 6. When I go in to "back up and convert" as recommended it tells me it is unable to do so because one of the v/m's files exceeds 4 gb which is the maximum allowable for Fat32. Any ideas or do I just need to scrap my old parallels version and start anew?
 
I don't know the answer (can't provide a solution), but may be this will be a hint:

Is VM placed on the external drive?.. if so then FileSystem on could really be FAT32 and don't allow more then 4Gb of file.
