upgrade issues to 10.2.2 with XP VM?

I have Parallels Desktop 10.2.1, with Windows XP SP3 as the VM. I notice alot of people reporting problems when ugrading to 10.2.2, but most of the problems involve compatibility with Windows 10. I would like to know if anyone is having problems with XP VM after upgrading to 10.2.2.

There should be no problem with Windows XP after updating to Parallels Desktop 10.2.2(29105). And if you find any issue, please feel free to post here.

I know there "ought" not to be issues with XP, just as there "ought" not to be issues with Windows 10 - but given the posts here about problems with 10.2.2 and Windows 10 I would like to know the experience of someone who has done this, as I would rather not have the update screw up my VM, as apparently it does for Windows 10.
 
After I upgraded to Parallels 10.2.2, my Windows XP guest OS always install Parallels Desktop tools failed, after restart again and again, still failed. Graphics driver was absent. Host OS is Mac OS X 10.10.4, iMac late 2012. Before the upgrade, everything is fine.

I understand that Parallels Tools are not getting installed on your Windows XP after the upgrade.
Please try to follow the steps mentioned in this link: http://kb.parallels.com/112609
There are three ways mentioned in this link to install Parallels Tools. Please try them our to Install Parallels Tools manually.

Thanks for the quick reply, Dishant.
Sorry I did not describe it clearly. My problem is not about mount Parallels Tools disc, but installation always fail after 74% and ask me to restart and try again. At the beginning the anti-virus app complains and block some host file access, so I turn it off and install P Tools again, but still failed.

Lets try the steps mentioned here: http://kb.parallels.com/118379 and check if it resolves the issue.
 
Jinpeng - did you have this problem when first installing Parallels or for any previous upgrades of Parallels - or is this a problem only with 10.2.2?
If not, then it seems that 10.2.2 caused the registry problem. Judging from the other threads in this forum, 10.2.2 needs to be fixed/replaced before I upgrade to it.

Hi Andrew,
I did not have this problem before, either first installing or any previous upgrade.
But I just be able to install Parallels Tools by removing several software installed from Windows XP.
I am not sure if there is any conflict between these software and Parallels, because they were there for years, I did not remember if some of them upgraded since last Parallels upgrade or not. Anyway it is a clue.
 
Thanks - so was the solution to remove the XP software (which ones) or the fix of the registry entries described in KB 118379?

Hi Andrew, I removed Firefox and ICBC (Industrial and Commercial Bank of China), then Parallels Tools could be installed.

Yes, at times we come across such situations where suddenly a third party application installed in you Windows (any version) virtual machine starts conflicting with Parallels Tools. That application can be anything irrespective of its direct or indirect relation with Parallels Tools. Mostly it is an anti virus software. This is not a major issue but yes the only resolution in such situations is to uninstall the third party applications and then reboot the Virtual machine and follow the steps to re-install Parallels Tools by using one of the ways mentioned in this link http://kb.parallels.com/112609 or using http://kb.parallels.com/118379 for advanced trouble shooting steps. Once the tools are installed, you can try and re-install those third party applications and check if they still work fine.
Anyway, we are glad that the issue was fixed in your case @jinpeng .

Note: If the conflicting Software was an antivirus software then try to avoid re-installing it as most of the antivirus softwares except Kaspersky conflict with Parallels Tools.
 
Still, there was apparently something in 10.2.2 that collided with installed software that the previous versions of Desktop had no problem with. The continuing issues with 10.2.2 in the forums (destroyed VMs, nonfunctionalities, in one case having to entirely re-install Windows) suggests that 10.2.2 is more problematic than 10.2.1. Speaking for myself, I will hold off upgrading until I am convinced that 10.2.2 will work with XP (and is compatible with Firefox and other routine programs). The idea of having uninstall (and reinstall) each of my Windows programs to find an incompatibility that was not present before is a bit daunting!
