Using Parallels at restricted network

Hello,

Our university has restricted network where one must register computers ethernet card's MAC-address so it can get an IP address. Without this web is not operational. How would one configure Parallels than? What network settings should we use?

If you use HOST ONLY networking on your VM you won't have any problems.
This means of course you won't have web access from INSIDE your VM.

This might not be a problem.

If you are running Bridged Networking then I don't know -- but in theory it should be fine as your external connections are still going via the host -- depends on whether 2 IP addresses are assigned or not.

I'm not an expert on networking but I do know that you won't have any problems if you only want web access via the host (Host Only Networking)
 
One solution is to use internet sharing
Configure VM to use host only networking
Open system preferences on OS X, select sharing select internet
Select your connection from the "Share your connection from" Menu
Select Ethernet Adaptor (en2) from the box below
Turn personal web sharing on.
 
I had the same problem using parallels on a restricted network. I used host-only networking and all is fine now. Search the forum for hints on this. I had to hard code some IP addresses to make it work, though this may not really be necessary anymore.

You can also use network neighborhood to navigate to your host computer, and even install the host computers' printers. You really don't need the shared folders with this kind of networking.
