Very slow startup!!!

I'm experiencing a very slow startup. When I launch the Parallel environment and Windows XP begins to boot, Windows shows the standard startup screen as it is launching and then goes to a blue screen where it hangs for several minutes and then finally comes to the Windows user login screen which also takes a while to load.

Parallels was working fine and then when Windows crashed it started to become terribly slow. I reinstalled Parallels and removed the Parallels Startup Items. Any suggestions to fixing this? This is a ridiculously slow startup.

I guess im a little confuse, windows crashed and you reinstalled parellels :confused:

I would look into getting windows fixed.
what was happening when windows crashed? I need a starting point to help.

I did a search on this forum for this issue and the answer was to reinstall Parallels and delete the Startup Items in the Library folder. According to the thread I read, this solved the problem but it did not solve the issue.

I'm attaching a screen shot of what the screen looks like when Windows starts up. It's not a standard "Blue Screen of Death". It's basically the standard blue screen that appears for a second after Windows boots up and before Windows goes to the sign in screen. Windows opens and works but it takes quite a while for Windows to open.

In terms of what lead up to this, I was installing a Dreamweaver plugin from Yahoo for Merchant Services (which works fine on my Dell Computer) and ever since then this problem has occurred. This plugin was installed properly but when I try to use it in Dreamweaver it trys to load our products from the Yahoo Store and it hangs up at this point as well.

Any ideas?

Ok, does windows work at normal speed after the slow startup?

I would uninstall the plugin from yahoo and see if that resolves the issue. just from a trouble shoting stand point.

Normally when windows takes that long to boot, it is trying to init. or communicate with a device and it is waiting for a response and sometimes those can be up to 2 minutes b4 the request times out

another thing is you could restart WinXP and press F8 when starting (press it several times) and then when you get startup menu select safe mode. Go into safe mode and then right click on my computer and go to propeties and click on device manager button and see if there is any hardware driver flagged as having problems
 
Well, I uninstalled the Yahoo plugin, restarted Windows and Windows just hung in the "Saving Your Settings" screen for a long while. After about 10 minutes of no change I restarted Parallels. Now I have been waiting for well over 10 minutes and Windows has not even gone beyond the blue screen. I'm afraid I'm dead in the water....

I don't know what to do.... I can't even get to the Safe Mode option!
 
It would appear Windows has hosed itself. Hopefully you made a backup copy of your Windows VM after you first set it up..

You may be able to re-run the windows installer and see if it will repair your existing VM.
