Virtual Machine configuration file not found?

Hi

New to both MAC and Parallels!
Downloaded the trial version of Parallels desktop for mac last night to my new MacBook pro retina 13", I need to run an old windows only Microsoft program called MS Money 2005, which is installed and functioning on my windows 7 x64 PC.

I have downloaded the Parallels transporter agent to PC and run it several times now to copy over my windows 7 x64 installation via a plug in portable hard drive to mac.

I run through the wizard selecting only the relevant C: drive, entering a blank password or selecting no auto login, it takes about 45 - 60 minutes and completes.

I then connect the portable hard drive to the Mac and run Parallels Desktop, pointing it to the file on the portable drive called Windows 7.pvm, I then get the error message in Parallels saying Virtual Machine configuration file is not found

Am I missing something?
 
Hi,

Try to copy this Windows 7.pvm file to the Mac Hard Drive, for example to Documents/Parallels and try to launch from there. Chances are it has issues with accessing your external HD.

To start the VM, you can just double-click on Windows 7.pvm (once you copy it to Mac HD)

I have just restarted both the MacBook and PC and was trying to migrate via the network as an alternative, it says it's transferring the data but will take three hours 58 minutes to complete.

As I have already started this, I will leave it to attempt transfer that way and go out for a bit.
Then when I come back again if it hasn't progressed much further, I will cancel and try the method that you describe.
 
Well, the network transfer failed due to a loss in network connection apparently.

Just tried migrating to the portable hard drive and copying the file manually to the Mac, failed with a similar but slightly different error message, basically it didn't like the file!

Trying again one more time, then I will scrap the idea as I have already wasted too much time on this.

Any suggestions as to another way of doing this?
It seems that Parallels doesn't like any of the files or methods available to transfer using "Transporter Agent".

Does anyone know of any other way of transferring my Windows 7 x64 from my old PC over to my Mac using Parallels?
The parallels transporter agent doesn't work for me.
I have tried it numerous times and when the file it creates on the winows pc is transferred over to the Macbook, it just doesn't like the file.

I was looking at contacting Parallels support for help, but it seems you need to register the product before you can even get any help!
I downloaded this as a 14 day trial to check that it worked before downloading and paying for the registered version, if I can't get the trial to work, or any help from Parallels with it I am definitely not going to part with any cash!

Unless anyone can come up with any other Ideas I will just have to uninstall it.
I hear that VMware have a highly recommended program that does work has anyone any experience of this?
