Virtual Machine List

My "virtual machine list" has three items: XP New, XP, and Bootcamp. My recollection is that when I initially installed Parallels 5 in 2008 myself, I created a Bootcamp partition and tried installing XP there. Had a lot of trouble which the Tech Support people eventually helped me solve. I think that is where the first two items on the list came from. When I upgraded to Parallels 6 in 2010 I again had trouble and the Tech Support people talked me through it, creating a new virtual machine called "XP New". I now have to upgrade from XP to W7 and think the way to do that is to create a new virtual machine. So, is there any harm in deleting the original XP and Bootcamp vm's? Can that in any way screw up the XP New vm? Or, is there any harm is just leaving them there?

BTW, I know that P6 is old, but so is my iMac. I plan to buy a new iMac in the fall when I will upgrade to the latest version of Parallels. RIght now I am still running SNow Leopard with a machine that maxes out at 4 gigs of RAM.

Hello Mark F,

If you are have created the new XP Virtual Machine using the DVD or an .ISO image file, then you can go ahead and remove the other two Virtual Machine's from your Mac.

It will not affect your newly created Virtual Machine.

If you are not using the other two Virtual Machine's we would recommend you to remove them so that you will be getting some additional space on your Macintosh Hard Disk.

Also to uninstall the unnecessary Virtual Machine's from your Parallels Desktop you may follow the steps as suggested at : http://kb.parallels.com/113831
