In the past Parallels would also a few activations, such as your desktop and laptop, on one license. Starting with Parallels 11 they seem to be strictly enforcing the one computer per license. So if you have multiple computers, don't bother updating unless you want to pay for Parallels on each machine.

  2. Hi,
We would like to inform you that the Parallels End User License Agreement permits one copy of the software to be activated by a single license key on a single computer.
If you have multiple license keys for the software, you may activate that number of copies of the software on the same corresponding number of computers as you have license keys.
The Parallels End User License Agreement is available at: http://www.parallels.com/about/legal/eula/

From the EULA: You may use one copy of the Software activated by a license key on a single device owned, leased, or otherwise controlled by you, at a single time (the "Authorized Device")

This appears to indicate that you may use only ONE copy at a time therefore it seems legitimate to be able to install multiple copies but USE only ONE copy at any one time. I suppose it depends on the strict interpretation of the complete sentence.

Personally, if Apple can sell family packs (5 devices) of software I don't see why other software providers don't do the same. Many households now have multiple devices, usually a desktop / laptop / mobile device but most do not use all simultaneously.

Hi Desc, Parallels is committed to providing high-quality, cost-effective solutions to our customers. Rapidly changing technologies and the changing business environment influence the level, timing, and character of demand for particular product versions and components. These drive the need to introduce new products and services as well as to end support of, or ability to, purchase older licenses. We would like you to view this article if you would like to use your Parallels Desktop for Mac license on a new Mac, you should sign out of the account the license is registered under on the Mac you don't need anymore. Click on the Parallels Desktop menu, and select Account & License. In the activation window, click on your account email address and select Sign Out.
