WerFault.exe - Application Error The instruction at 0xb16c6d09 referenced memory at 0x00000008

I've got a test server I am getting ready for production use. It is a freshly installed VM of Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard x64.

I tried to update from 2X RAS 14.0 to 14.1. During the installation process a window pops up:
WerFault.exe - Application Error
The instruction at 0xb16c6d09 referenced memory at 0x00000008. The memory could not be written.
Click ok to terminate the program.

At this point the only thing I can do is to reboot because launching just about any application results in similar errors.

Three times I've reverted the VM to a snapshot taken before the upgrade and tried again. Same behavior. The server is perfectly stable if I do not perform this upgrade.

I've performed memory diagnostics and no problems were found.

We're about a week away from purchasing the 2X and RDS licenses in preparation for the initial rollout.

Please advise.
