I'm trying to understand thin client computing for the first time. I've read the 2X docs but I can't make the connection on some ideas. I have a single WIN2K SERVER with TERMINAL SERVICES. I need to publish an entire DESKTOP to give access to multiple apps. In this scenario, what advantages does the 2X APPSERV layer provide? Faster compression than RDP? Thanks in advanced?
Hi there, 2X Application Server & Loadbalancer offers load balancing of full screen connections on Terminal Servers, A new printing solution and other features. In your case if the number of connections are more then 1 terminal server can handle, you can use the load balancer to always connect to one server and have the connections load balanced between the servers. There are othere solutions such are the Gateway functionality, where ppl could connect securly from over the internet to an internal Terminal Server. Nixu
2X will have to be quite inventive the following months, as the feature set of Longhorn TS seems to match all of the features 2X Application Server now provides. With one exception - Longhorn is said not to support multi-monitor setups, so if 2X could make that happen that would definitely be a selling point.
Well, it requires you to upgrade to Longhorn, which can get pricey. It also still not available for public use. If you are running your company on the beta Longhorn releases then that sounds dodgy. You can keep the same Terminal Servers with the current solution and have more features like the universal printing to name one of them. Also, you can't load balance published applications (last I checked).
I never said I'd run my company on beta releases. Still, the feature set in Longhorn beta 3 is quite impressive: http://www.msterminalservices.org/artic ... -Beta.html
