The "remote" machine is using Visual Studio Remote Debugging Tool.
AFAIK only task of the plugin is to deal with all the work to install and configure remote sessions. Then the only advantage could be not deal with installations, firewall rules, deploying foldres and so. Configure thar requires some time, but is not difficult.
I remember Fussion had same stuff, but I never will be able to get it working. When needed, I did it manually.
