Will the insider preview version of windows 10 that is available through the parallels 10 desktop be edible for a free upgrade to windows 10 when it is released? I previously had a windows XP version installed so the beta version of windows 10 is the only windows version I have.
Based on MS Notes you cannot upgrade from XP to preview. But you can keep using preview (as long as you are updating it regularly). The update, etc, are independent of Parallels so you should upgrade per microsoft rules.
I would guess no as MS is allowing the free upgrade to Windows 10 from PAID versions - either upgrades or full versions. I can't see them allowing you to do the free upgrade from what is basically a free, demo version of their software. (But what do I know.) And their announcement clearly states that XP is not eligible - only 7 and 8.1 - for the free Windows 10 upgrade.
