Ok....
so does this product actually work with windows 2000? I've done the installation, created the VM (twice) & had a nice pretty windows 2000 screen to look at. PROBLEM: everytime I try to actually install an application, the VM dies. At this rate, I'm more than a little disappointed. If there is a trick, or a setting or something I'm missing, I'm all ears. But if the "fix" for this is to buy XP, then I'm outa here.
Would really like to know if anyone has apps working with win2000 & if so, how to make it happen.
Oh, btw, I have a brand new macbook 1gb ram, 80gb hd, & chose the "typical" setting for installation.

Win2K works great in Parallels! in fact since it does not require activiation and has a generally smaller memory footprint than XP I use it for my main windows sessions in Parallels.

One caveat, I have not tried an original Win2K disk. I slipstreamed SP4 into Win2K a long time ago and that I what I have been using in Parallels. I do not know if this is your problem.

I'm using a W2K-pro upgrade cdrom that has me pop in my original win98 cd rom as part of the install process. This was the way it was back in the old pc days, but have also used this successfully in GuestPC on my pre-intel macs.
I'm *trying* to install win98 right now to see if I can get *anything* to work, but obviously would prefer the win2000 option.

Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4) was the most recent service pack for Windows 2000.

Microsoft provided a way to slipstream (meaning combine) SP4 into the Windows 2000 installation CD so that, if you used the newly created Windows 2000 setup CD to install Windows 2000, SP4 will be automatically installed instead of you having to apply the service pack afterwards.

If your Windows 2000 VM has not been patched to SP4, I strongly recommend you to do so at once. Also, go to Windows Update to get all the necessary security patches.

Yup.
That part was taken care of. After doing the install, I did the sp4 patches. Again, the VM ran flawlessly *until* I actually tried to install an application. Then it choked. Shutdown, rebooted, tried to install another application.....choked again.
