Win98: can't access 2nd hard disk

I have successfully installed Win98SE and all critical updates available from Microsoft. I am using Parallels build 5160. I then used Parallels Config Manager to add a second virtual hard disk (30,000 Kb). Hard Disk 2 appears on the device list; a file disk2.hdd was created in the VM directory; and a second hard disk icon appears in the frame beneath the VM desktop, Hard Disk 2 (IDE1:0), Status: connected. Yet, no disk drive letter appears in Win98 My Computer or Explorer. In MS-DOS (within Win98) if I run fdisk, there is only one hard disk listed. Any suggestions?

I would like to be in touch with serious users of Windows 98. I prefer to do most of my work (website development) in 4DOS (a well-designed MS-DOS-like command prompt) under Win98, tho I also have WinXP and OS X and VMWare. So far I have gotten the following to work in my Parallels Win98SE VM:
- External USB2 hard disk (80 Gb, FAT32) (with help from Parallels staff)
- External USB2 flash thumb (same drivers as previous item)
- Printer works
- Sound works
There are some bad devices in device manager, notably Other Devices, PCI Bridge has no driver.
 
Hello,

after creating a new HD, you'll need to perform its partitioning:
please, go to Control Panel->Administrative tools->Computer management->Disc management and there choose your newly created hard drive, right-click it and select New Partition.

Has anyone else succeeded in accessing the second virtual hard disk in Win98? I am puzzled that Alicia's method would work when I couldn't see the second drive in fdisk. Unfortunately I had to return the iMac I was borrowing as a test system, so I can't test Alicia's suggestion for awhile. (Alicia: thanks for your prompt reply!)
 
I'm sorry I misread your message heading - the solution I suggested suits windows XP.
For your case I suppose you should use some third-part partitioning program that supports Win98 or you can try "fdisk" DOS utility in Win98 command prompt.
