Windows 10 VM not recognizing resized HD

Greetings,
I am using PD15 running a Windows 10 VM.
Both are using the latest updates.
I have a variable size VM. It is not fixed in size.
I wanted to change the size of the VM hard drive from 512GB to 750GB.
This Windows 10 VM is running on a Thunderbolt external SSD drive; it is not running on the primary HDD where the Mac OS is located.
I changed the HDD capacity to 750GB but when I start the Windows 10 VM, Windows explorer still says '512' GB HDD, not 750GB or thereabouts.
Would anyone have any ideas on how to get around this?

I tried the first part but it did not help. Does my VM need to be STATIC first and not variable?
 
Hello. I followed the steps and installed the trial version of the Acronis software. It will not allow me to resize the disk since it's just a trial version.

This VM is on an external Thunderbolt SSD because trying to shrink it while on the same SSD on the Mac will corrupt/destroy the Mac file system. Now it seems I can neither expand the variable disk successfully; the Windows VM does not recognize the new size of the disk, and changing it to static disk at the new size doesn't work either.
