Hi,
If anyone can please help me..........
First, I want to state that I am not a tech wizard by any means. But I need to understand how I can upgrade my Windows 7.1 to Windows 10 Pro to run my Windows-based applications like QuickBooks and my tax preparation software program. In addition to support for Windows 7 being phased out, my number one concern for my CPA-based Tax Practice is security.
I am currently using Parallels Desktop 10 for Mac. A Parallels support person set up my Windows 7 virtual window seven years ago. I am still running the Yosemite OS due to current hardware equipment (16 year old Canon desktop scanner; was lucky to find a driver when I had to upgrade to 7 from Vista).
I know I need to upgrade to Parallels Desktop 15 for Mac it run Windows 10. I am running on a late 2012 iMac.
Can I just buy Windows 10 Pro and install it in a new virtual window?
Or is it safe to install Windows 10 Pro directly over Windows 7 in my current virtual window?
My other major concern would be a ransomware attack. I would think it best to install Windows 10 Pro in a new virtual window (if possible) and then I can delete the Windows 7 virtual window after I re-install my Windows-based apps and corresponding client data in the Windows 10 virtual window.
I don't mind purchasing Windows Pro 10 although I googled somewhere that since I had 7, that I could upgrade to 10 (Home or Pro).
Any directions or order of steps or information that I should be aware of would be sincerely appreciated.
Thanks!
Brian
