Hello, I have a Boot Camp partition on my MackBook Pro (Lion) running Windows 7 64 bit. It runs just fine in Boot Camp but recently it stopped working through Parallels 7. The startup screen appears, I even see the "Microsoft Corporation" logo load and then the screen goes blank and stays blank. I hear the Microsoft start-up sound play a few moments later which makes me think that the VM has loaded but maybe there are video driver issues. I have Bootcamp 4 installed on Windows and the latest parallels tools installed. I'm able to start the VM in Parallels in Safe Mode. I've deleted the Parallels VM and uninstalled Parallels and reinstalled several times but I always get the same results. Can you suggest something else for me to try? Thank you, Tim Enloe
Same issue being encountered I am having the same problem, it only started yesterday too. Have tried reinstalling both tools and parallels in total but it doesn't make any difference. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks Tim
Tim S., I contacted support yesterday, so far they just asked me to reinstall the VM and Parallels and to up my VM's memory from 1 to 2gb. It wasn't successful in solving the problem.
I was able to go into Safe Mode and uninstall Parallels Tools. After that I was able to log-in, but after re-installing the Tools, it went back to the same problem.
Adding "devices.video.pci_device_id=0x5005" to the boot configuration makes it work again, but you lose some features. http://kb.parallels.com/112317
I'm experiencing the same issue. Windows 7 x64 I added the boot option and I can now login in the VM. This issue started all of a sudden. I've been over a month using that VM before getting that issue. Other than using the boot flag, what else could I do to resolve this issue?
Adding that boot setting "devices.video.pci_device_id=0x5005" did not solve it for me. I am using Windows 7 with Parallels Build 6.0.12106, been using it for some time, and now suddenly the screen is all black. I can still use it but everything has a black background. Not very nice. I think I may have picked the option to install the Parallels tools as it told me they required installing.
One thing that worked for me - might work for others I put in the devices.video.pci_device_id=0x5005 in boot options and started windows. I followed this tutorial (skip to 2:30 that is where the interesting things begin) When you are able to see all hidden devices (remember to reboot), then locate the Parallels Display Adapter (WDDM) which should be hidden and not in use (thanks to devices...bla bla). Uninstall it and click yes/ok if it asks if it should uninstall all software belonging to that device. I also found some "Standard VGA Adapters" that were not in use and uninstalled them as well. Shut down again and remove the devices...bla bla. Start again. My Windows installed a "Standard VGA Adapter" again after this and at this point I chose to reinstall Parallels Tools. After the reboot windows was running Aero like it should and the display adapter was yet again "Parallels Display Adapter (WDDM)" and I was able to run games and so again. Hope that it helps others. Problem Solved for me too ! Deleting the parallels tools display driver after enabling hidden devices works perfectly. No more black screen ! This was driving me crazy ! Thanks Tim
Thank you for the detailed information. Can you tell me where I access the boot options to enter "devices.video.pci_device_id=0x5005" Thanks
I seem to have solved the problem by going to the Parallels Menu List, then Virtual Machine dropdown menu, then Reset button. When I reset I was given the option to open in normal/safe mode, etc. I chose to open with the command prompt because I intended to enter the "devices.video.pci_device_id=0x5005" line that others have mentioned above, but instead the VM just booted by itself and when windows opened the screen was working again.
I used a tutorial which help me alot that i shared with you guys may be it works for you black screen of death
